A Temagami canoe trip is an amazing way to see some of Ontario’s classic
Canadian Shield. Temagami is a land cloaked in mystery, controversy, and rugged beauty. It is home to some of
the few remaining old growth pine forests left in the world. You will have a
chance to hike beneath a cathedral of towering red and white pine trees on the
Wakimika Triangle trail and gaze out at the stunning view of Obabika lake.
During your trip, you will be able to catch a glimpse of the past while you visit
an old logging camp filled with treasures left behind by the men who lived,
worked, and played within the area.
6 Day Canoe Trips
Your trip will start on the sandy beach of Sandy Inlet at the north end of Lake Temagami. From there you
will be passing some historic points of interest, such as the former site of Lady Evelyn Hotel circa 1907,
and a Jack ladder that leads into Diamond Lake. To this day the remains of the Jack ladder are still evident.
On the west shore of Diamond Lake is the site of an old abandoned logging camp that
still contains the remains
of the camp and the tools that were used to harvest the trees in the area. If the weather permits, you will
have a chance to take a hike on the Wakimika Triangle trail and be able to gaze at the towering red
and white old growth pine trees. While canoeing through Obabika Inlet to the Northwest Arm of Lake Temagami,
you will pass through an area that saw a ragging forest fire in the late 1970's. The balance of fire and re-growth
is startling. On our last day in Temagami we will be canoeing past the breath taking cliffs of Mount Ferguson
and Devil Mountain.
